KARNATAKA STATE LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION
The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) is the governing body for tennis in Karnataka and is probably the most professionally run state tennis associations in India lead by professionals and passionate tennis lovers. Established in the 1930s as the Mysore State Lawn Tennis Association and formally registered in 1952, KSLTA has played a pivotal role in shaping tennis in the country. Its international prominence was first marked in 1970 when Bengaluru hosted the historic India–Australia Davis Cup tie at the Cubbon Courts in which India upset Australia.
With the aim of creating a dedicated international-standard facility, KSLTA in 1972, laid the foundation stone for its own stadium at Cubbon Park. The stadium, inaugurated in 1976 by the late Shri D. Devaraj Urs, then Chief Minister of Karnataka, now boasts a seating capacity of 6,000 spectators. Complementing the stadium is a modern clubhouse with a gymnasium, restaurant, swimming pool, pool table, and air-conditioned guest rooms for players and officials.
KSLTA has consistently been at the forefront of promoting international tennis in India, establishing Bengaluru as a truly global tennis destination. Over the years, the Association has successfully hosted numerous world-class events, including Davis Cup ties, ATP World Doubles Championships, WTA Tour events, Billie Jean King Cup tie, ITF Women’s $100,000 tournaments, ATP Challenger events, and ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments. These prestigious events underscore KSLTA’s commitment to maintaining the highest international standards and providing Indian audiences with top-tier tennis experiences.
KSLTA is dedicated to the all-round (360°) development of tennis, offering budding youngsters opportunities to hone their skills and compete at higher levels. Karnataka is the only state in India with 11 international-standard tennis centres in districts outside Bengaluru, reflecting KSLTA’s focus on accessibility and grassroots development. Professionally managed programs span grassroots initiatives to high-performance tennis, ensuring continuous nurturing of talent and development of the sport at every level.
Beyond tournaments and training, KSLTA plays a crucial role in promoting tennis as a sport for life. The Association encourages participation across age groups, from juniors to veterans, and actively engages with schools, colleges, and clubs to build a strong tennis culture. Its efforts in coaching, talent scouting, and athlete mentorship have produced numerous national and international champions, reinforcing Karnataka’s position as a powerhouse of Indian tennis.
With a rich legacy spanning over nine decades, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, KSLTA continues to elevate Indian tennis on the global stage, nurturing talent, inspiring communities, and showcasing Bengaluru as a world-class sporting destination.
